Getting Around

In order to get to work, I need transportation. I decided to search on craigslist for a suitable 4-door car, and eventually found a 2015 Ford Focus Titanium. This car is in good condition, has 122,000 miles, and a clean title. These are all positive things, especially at the price point of $5,900. The current owner says the 4-liter engine is capable of 30 mpg, which will further help my gas costs.

Since the commute is about 1.1 miles (2.2 round trip), I would end up paying about $4.84 for gas each month, which is so insanely low I'm almost questioning my math;
($3.00/gal * ((2.2 mil * 22 days) / 30 mpg))
Although, I guess it does make some sense due to the brevity of my commute. To be honest, I think it would almost be better to just walk to work. 1.1 miles is not that far, and getting exercise before going to work every day would be beneficial. The only thing that I think would make me regret that is the walk home after a long day of working.

I am buying my car in a private sale, so I will be paying with cash and in full after meeting with the seller. To do this, I will be dipping into my $8,021 of remaining savings. After buying this car, I will be down to $2,121 remaining to spend on other items I need. Car insurance will cost me about $132.67 each month, the registration will cost me $38.75 each year, and the property taxes on the car will be about $92.27 each year. I chose this car because it looked the nicest with the least issues within my price range.
